Bainbridge Island
Bainbridge Island is a relaxing, 35 minute ferry ride across
Puget Sound from Seattle's business and financial center, which offers a
secluded way of lifeunique in US cities. While a fullrange of
retail and business establishments in Winslow serve our residents, the
overwhelming majority of working Islanders commute to Seattle by ferry.
Because it's connected with the Kitsap and Olympic
Peninsulas via a highway over the Agate Pass Bridge, Bainbridge Island is often
the starting point for sightseeing trips to the Peninsulas and the Washington
coast.
Today's Bainbridge Island has evolved from its strategic
location attracting ship building and timber industries, international
shipping, bringing families to waterfront summer cottages and farmers to
year-round berry farms. From the earliest days the Island has been populated
with those determined to preserve the beauty and special feeling of Bainbridge.
Now, bicyclists and joggers love the quiet roads of the Island; others enjoy
the many parks to rest or picnic. Overnight visitors find excellent
accommodations in cozy Bed & Breakfasts and Inns. Other hotel/motel
accommodations can be found in Seattle, and on the Kitsap
Peninsula. more »
